This Time and Then

by Elise

The moment I stepped into her living room

I saw two sides of time.

On one side I saw the old woman I was talking to,

On the other was a little girl,

maybe a friend of mine.

The more we talked,

the the younger she grew,

and the more she told me,

the more worldly she was,

and the more I asked,

the more fascinating she became,

and the more I learned,

the more I wanted to know.
